More information about the Bio & Biomedical Engineering Discipline

Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering are two partially overlapping but distinct fields of study and work.

Bioengineering is a science-based discipline focused on biology and creates a connection between biology and engineering. It sets out to apply the scientific knowledge to relevant problems in an effective and efficient way. Biomimetic is the sub-discipline of Bioengineering that deals with the transfer of biological models and systems to the design of machines and materials. Systems Biology is another sub-discipline that utilizes the engineering knowledge to discover structures, functions and operation methods of biological systems.

Biomedical Engineering is concerned with applying the biological science to medical innovation and bridges the gap between engineering and medicine with the purpose of improving the healthcare area. Amazing progress and development has been made in the fields of diagnosis and therapy thanks to the newly established discipline of Biomedical Engineering through the production of advanced medical equipment and devices that incorporate the biological dimension. Bio prostheses, micro implants, imaging machinery like the MRI and tissue growth are some of the notable achievements of this study field. Bringing engineering to a new level, Biomedical Engineering offers unlimited research, development and growth perspectives.
