More information about the Philosophy Discipline

Philosophy study field aims to look into the human problems related to existence, knowledge, minds, values and other general and fundamental issues. These problems are considered based on rational argumentation using systematic approaches. Philosophy strives to acquire knowledge by rational means about the issues that are difficult for empirical investigations. This study field has three main sub-fields: natural philosophy, moral philosophy and metaphysical philosophy. Philosophy has many other branches including epistemology, logic, metaphysics, axiology (value theory), moral and political philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of language, philosophy of law, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, and philosophy of science.

    This program provides, through the perspective of the humanities, an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of European, particularly Central European and Czech society and culture, within an integrating Europe in the age of globalization. Courses in history, psychology, politics, law, economic thought, and sociology provide a general foundation for the understanding of humanities and culture today. Students will be prepared to adapt, communicate, work and succeed in a multinational and multicultural society. The program pays special attention to the idea of peaceful coexistence and encourages positive and tolerant approaches, considering this aspect to be an important component of the interdisciplinary profile of our students.
