This specialist jazz degree encompasses diverse performance opportunities combined with professional training relating to the contemporary jazz industry. Individual tuition is offered on bass, drums, flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, voice and other instruments as agreed with the course leader. Group classes focus on both standard and contemporary repertoire working within duos, trios, quartets, big band, jazz ensembles and jazz choir. The programme features a range of performance
platforms including school workshops, jam sessions, jazz club gigs, masterclasses, touring programmes and appearances at major festivals. The course aim is to equip students with skills across many styles within the jazz idiom and enable them to develop a mature understanding of jazz language, processes and repertoire whilst developing skills in composing, arranging, band leadership, self-promotion and
events management.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testEntrance onto the course is by audition. You will be expected to demonstrate musical ability equivalent to the standard of a Distinction at ABRSM Grade VIII.
Following success at audition, applicants will also be expected to achieve minimum entrance qualifications which may include A-Levels, Scottish Highers, BTEC National Diploma/Certificate, Advanced GNVQ, AVCE or Advanced Diploma (Level 3).
For international students recognised equivalent qualifications are accepted.
You should also have passed ABRSM Grade V theory. Candidates will also be considered who have no formal qualifications but can demonstrate an exceptional level of ability.
