How does a firm set up a factory abroad? Setting up factories abroad, or expanding your market to other countries, is not an easy task.
It confronts management with new questions that demand new ways of thinking. It also requires new activities in unknown territory. This includes for instance different market structures, complex crossborder legal systems, extra valuta and other financial risks, more varied habits and expectations in employer-employee relations and more complicated negotiations.
In this day and age, companies and organizations need a new type of manager, one trained in the needs and demands of that environment. These managers must operate smoothly and knowledgeably in an international context, where working in international teams with a feel for other cultures is the most natural thing in the world.
IB&M is a degree programme that trains you in the knowledge and skills you will need to solve the management problems that companies encounter when they operate across borders. It is an international programme, what not only means that the language of instruction is English, but also that the programme takes a comparative approach to business and management topics. IB&M focuses on making as many comparisons as possible. These can be comparisons of markets in various countries, but also identifying the parallels and contrasts found in a wide range of cultures, customs and management styles. In the third year students spend one semester abroad.
The IB&M programme is a profile within the regular BSc in Business Administration. It caters for Dutch as well as foreign students who aspire to an international career in international business and prepares them for a job on the international labour market. Just like business itself, the labour market is also moving towards globalization.
Although the programme is strongly rooted in the basic disciplines of business administration, including sociology, economics and law, it also concentrates on the management perspective in international contexts. Language training, skills and a study period abroad are also part of the programme.
International experience is an invaluable step in developing a deeper understanding of the subjects you study. Self development is stimulated by using the small group teaching method for direct application of theory and by helping you to improve your practical skills such as presenting, reporting and teamwork.
