This course will give you an understanding and knowledge of accounting and its place within, and relationship to, the broader business environment. Graduates will have the skills to pursue careers in finance and accounting, or in broader management roles that require knowledge of accounting and an analytical approach to problem solving.
Our course is recognised by the main professional accountancy bodies and leads to substantial exemptions from many of their examinations. It is also sufficiently flexible to provide a sound basis for a career in general management or postgraduate study. Half of the modules in the final year are electives chosen by you, so you can choose modules to maximise professional examination exemptions, to pursue areas of particular interest, or to broaden your studies.

The course is built around three key subject areas. Financial Reporting focuses on reporting financial performance to external parties, Management Accounting concentrates on how best to use resources and providing information for decision makers within organisations and Financial Management identifies, examines and evaluates corporate financing strategies. As well as learning about key accounting techniques you will develop your understanding of the wider business context in areas such as organisational management and economics. The course also has a vocational focus offering the opportunity for a work placement in the third year as well as incorporating Personal, Academic and Career Effectiveness (PACE) development at each level.
