The bachelor's degree qualification is general training that includes knowledge of Economics, Law, History and sociology, and research-focused instrumental subjects, as well as knowledge of political and administration science.
The basic and compulsory subjects ensure that the minimum levels of knowledge for working professionally in the political and administrative field are provided. The choice of a specific track enables future graduates to focus professionally on a more specific area and on a subsequent specialisation (master's degree).
The ultimate objective of the degree course is therefore to train professionals with a very high level of knowledge of science and the background to it, who are able to work in the European sphere, experienced in the use of new technologies, with a critical turn of mind and committed to democratic values.
An ability to analyse and summarise is advisable for this course, as well as a sense of organisation and planning and considerable ability in oral and written communication, both in one's own language and if possible in a second language. Being willing to work as part of a team and establish relationships, as well as a critical and self-critical frame of mind, are important.
In general, students must be interested in the public sphere, and must enjoy reading about the great problems of history, society and contemporary politics and be well informed in these areas; they should also feel comfortable with using new information and communication technologies, and must have some mathematical background which enables them to use the basic tools of statistics and quantitative analysis.
The five tracks in the syllabus make it possible for students to obtain a precise training profile linked to professional opportunities, which can facilitate access to some master's degrees. These tracks enable students to take the maximum advantage of the knowledge and experience of the teaching staff involved and the various research lines in which they work.
During the final academic year, students must produce an academic study based on their stage in institutions, political organisations, business or public administrations. This internship will provide them with a link to the professional world and thereby reinforce their theoretical learning. The resulting academic work will be a carefully thought out development of the theoretical and practical learning undertaken during the course.
