Translation and interpretation are areas of increasing interest. The globalisation process, the expansion of new technologies, the increase in education, together with the interest in democratising political systems, has increased the need for translation and interpretation, as well as the need for the production of computerised linguistic resources (translation programmes, terminological vocabulary, document forms, etc.), and as such professionals specialising in these areas are increasingly in demand. The degree in Translation and Interpretation provides modern training in this growing professional sector, and emphasises the most important aspects of philological studies (grammar, literary tradition, etc.) and the new linguistic disciplines (discourse analysis, terminology, computer linguistics).
The degree in Translation and Interpretation is fully adapted to the European Higher Education Area and to the agreements reached in the Bologna declaration, and as such it is a degree that is officially valid all over Europe. The subjects are counted as European credits (ECTS), which measure both class hours and the work done by student on their own account.
The degree in Translation and Interpretation provides opportunities for the following:
* Obtaining comprehensive and multidisciplinary training for translation and interpretation: you will write and speak in both your mother tongues and in foreign languages. You will study the theoretical and practical command of target languages and techniques for oral and written communication in particular depth. If your only mother tongue is Spanish you will be assigned a specific linguistic track.
* Becoming familiar with using computer resources and new technologies applied to professional work in translation and communication.
* Choose from a wide range of optional tracks: Legal-economic translation, scientific-technical translation literary translation, translation and the media, reflection on translation, translation technologies, interpretation, interpretation of Catalan sign language.
* Choose between German, English, French and Catalan sign language as working languages.
* Undertake an in-company external internship.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

* From the university entrance examination preparation course (COU) and the Higher Secondary Education Certificate University Entrance Examination (PAU): all options.
* From high level training cycles: sign language interpretation.
* The test for those aged over 25 years old: the scientific-technical and health sciences option, or the humanities and social sciences option.
Admission test
If you would like to join the Faculty with English as your first foreign language, you must pass an aptitude test. In the test, you will have to summarise a lecture given in English in Catalan and/or Spanish and do a simple writing exercise in English.
