Breathing life into images, text and concepts, turning them on their head and communicating them in a fresh way to a wide audience is often the work of the BA Design - Visual Communication graduate. The programme, which is four years in duration, is aimed at people who wish to become creative graphic designers, typographers, image makers, illustrators and digital media designers. In educating the artistic forces of the student in the area of visual communication the programme has both practical and theoretical elements. Studio Practice focuses on the principles of design and is structured around the three key areas within Communication Design: Print-based Design, Screen-based Design and Image-Making. Supporting the practice aspects of the programme, Critical Theory introduces students to design practice and key issues in the history and theory of design.
Students are expected to experiment with design ideas and techniques while developing an increasingly professional approach through participation in live projects and competitions. In their final year students submit a written thesis on an approved topic in design.
