The requirement to care competently for those who need to be cared for due to their personal circumstances is becoming more apparent in 21st century Ireland. From children and adolescents in residential care to the homeless, people with intellectual disabilities and the aged, there are people of all ages, ability and race across every strata of society who need the help of a social care professional. Social Care graduates are employed in a variety of settings and the Social Care honours degree programme is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in this broad and important area. Students prepare for the profession of social care through theoretical class-based content in addition to experience gained through practice placement.
It is a requirement of the placement providers that all students on this programme must undergo Garda vetting procedures before being allowed to register. Students must complete the required documentation, including a full list of all previous addresses, in order for clearance checks to be made. Students with previous addresses outside of the Republic of Ireland will be required to provide evidence of vetting by the relevant authority in which the address is located and at their own cost. Currently Irish addresses are vetted by the Garda Vetting Bureau at no cost to the student.
