This programme will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a challenging and rewarding career in information systems. It is a course of study that covers both business studies and computing from a commercial or business perspective, that opens up a wide range of career opportunities in either IT or general management as well as in a wide range of specialist software development roles.
Students are exposed to concepts and ideas that will allow them to develop the necessary skills to launch a career in an area that continues to show significant growth and where relevant skills are in short supply. The skills that are demanded by industry are changing, with increased emphasis on soft skills, business skills for IT, marketing and sales, business strategy and entrepreneurship. With this dual-natured programme, students will be fully equipped with the skills that are in demand from industry.
Students will also have opportunities to apply their learning through practical course exercises and projects. They will also receive extensive exposure to real world business problems through their class work and their final year project, where a real world business problem is addressed through the development of a software solution.
Year One
Sales and Marketing Processes and Methods, Financial Accounting, Principles of Management, Quantitative Methods, Statistics, Multimedia, Networks in Business, Object-Oriented Software Development.
Year Two
Management Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Database Systems, Organisational Behaviour, Advanced Object-Oriented Software Development, Algorithms and Data Structures, Finance, Advanced Statistics.
Year Three
Core modules: Project Management, Communication and Teamwork, Internet Systems Development, Business Process Modelling, Software Quality Assurance, Enterprise Databases, Software Engineering, Distributed Information Systems. Options: XML Applications, Component Based Software Development, Data Warehousing, Intelligent Systems, Management of Information Systems, Business Decision Making.
Year Four
Core Modules: Strategic Management, Strategic Information Systems, Distributed Information Systems 2, Seminar Series, Final year Software Development Project.
Options: Mobile Application Development, Data Mining, Software Patterns, Entrepreneurship.
Overseas Study Placement
During the programme a number of places exist for students to take a period of academic study abroad in one of our partner institutions in Europe.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
