The BA for Community Educators offered by the Faculty of Education is a three-year course that aims to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills in the following subjects: pedagogy, sociology, psychology, law and economics. The study plan includes training periods in companies and institutions in the area of health and social issues and in public administration. Stays abroad to study in foreign universities are also encouraged, in particular those programmes promoted by the EU.
Subjects taught for the BA for Community Educators are offered in Italian and German (more or less divided equally). The final exam for each subject takes place in the official teaching language of the subject. Students are only allowed to enrol for this course after having sat a language test and after having passed a selection exam that is based on general knowledge and current events in the social sphere.
These results are then used to form a rank list of suitable candidates. Students who have Italian as their first language have to sit a German-language test and students who have German as a first language have to sit an Italian-language exam. Students who have neither German nor Italian as their first language must dot both language tests. Students who do not pass the language test can still enrol for the degree course but they must also attend a compulsory language course for the language they have not passed for the entire first year of their course.
Once students have passed this language test, which is administered by the University’s Language Centre, they have all the requirements necessary for enrolling in the second year of the course. If students do not pass this language test, they have to remain in the first year.
