Modules in this degree embrace technical and applied studies in musical composition of various styles and periods which are complemented by detailed analytical and historical studies. Performance is considered to be an important part of the course and all students have the opportunity to take an active part in one of the department's choirs or in an alternative vocal or instrumental ensemble. Final year Honours students have the opportunity of specialising in composition, performance, or musicology. Students are also offered courses in Music Technology.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testApplicants are not required to have taken the Irish Leaving Certificate in music, however they are expected to have some music reading skills and knowledge of basic elements of music theory (eg. scales, intervals and chords).
Applicants must have completed a recognised High School Leaving Examination which is considered equivalent to the Irish Leaving Certificate.

Applicants must have an IELTS score of 6, if not they may take our International
Foundation Course. Minimum English language requirement for the IFC is IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.
