Career Profile
The use of medical devices is increasing due to longer life expectancy, demands for better medical treatment, and new methods of treatment and therapy. Personal communication skills and future-oriented thinking enable our graduates to provide an effective link between medicine and technology.
Medical device engineering companies need qualified personnel, both in Austria and abroad,in product development, production, licensing, quality assurance, and product management.
Expert staff is also required by hospitals and rehabilitation centers in medical device purchasing, operating, and maintenance. Certifying agencies and research organizations also employ our graduates.
Focus
In addition to the standard equipment used in hospitals for diagnosis and therapy, there have been numerous developments in rehabilitation technologies, preventative medicine, technical aids and home care products.
* Electronic Devices: ECG, EEG, EMG, etc.
* Point-of-Care: respirators, defibrillators, blood-sugar level monitors, etc.
* Technical aids: hearing aids, pacemakers, etc.
* Imaging devices: ultrasonic scanners, CT, MRT, PET, SPECT, etc.
* Devices: microscopes and endoscopes, etc.
* Hospital technology: beds, transport, and heating/cooling systems
* Prostheses and implants: replacement joints, organ transplants and stents
* Rehabilitation and prevention: devices for physiotherapy and stimulation

The curriculum is designed to qualify graduates for positions in product development and production, marketing, quality assurance, and product and project management both at national and international level.
Studies focus on natural sciences, medicine device technology and applied medical device technology, computer science, device design and costing, English, and licensing law.
Students may specialize in either medical electronics and instrumentation, biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering or medical information systems. There are also courses in personal communication skills and economics.
Interest in the technical side of health care, medicine, and legal standards; ability to work well under stress
