Law is a challenging and highly respected field. As a student, you will explore the legal relationships that pervade our society, affecting individuals, families, corporations, and the State. You will acquire a thorough grounding in the fundamental areas of legal study, including Irish domestic law, the Irish legal system and European law.
The study of Law develops your facility for argument and reasoning, for clear thinking and for the analysis of complicated ideas. You will also gain the ability to express complex issues clearly in oral and written forms. Knowledge of Law is also a useful compliment to other areas of study, giving an added insight into economics, history, and politics, among other areas.
Law is studied with two other Arts subjects in First Year.
All students who achieve a minimum of 60% in the Law examinations are guaranteed a place in second year in their choice of the following two options:
BCL - Law and Arts
BBL - Law and Business Note: Only students who take Business as one of their First Year subjects may transfer to this.
If fewer than 15 students who opt for Law and Business and fewer than 25 students who opt for Law and Arts achieve a grade of 60 percent in their First Year Law exams, the remaining places will be allocated based on First Year Law exam results.
Students who are not offered a place in Law and Arts or Law and Business continue with their other two Arts subjects into Second Year. There are two options in Second and Third Year; Joint Honours with Law and a second Arts Subject or Major/Minor with Law (Major) and a Minor in the second Arts Subject.
