Internationally Oriented Studies (IOS) is a study program for international and German students. The IOS program offers the opportunity to receive an excellent engineering education, make international contacts, learn German and explore the possibilities of studying abroad.

The key technology `Electrical Engineering´ and especially the emphasis on electrical energy technology offers the electrical engineer a multitude of possible occupational fields, whose significance in the future will only continue to grow. According to professional direction and interest, electrical engineers can find their field of activity in the industry, economy, public administration or as freelancers in various branches, such as
o in the electronics industry
o in energy provision
o in energy consulting and services
o in machine and plant construction
o in the chemical industry
o in the automobile industry
o in medical technology, and
o everywhere where technical processes of energy supply should be automated and optimised.

Today, very little works without electronic engineering and electronics: in Germany nearly half of industrial production depends directly or indirectly on the utilisation of modern electronic engineering and electronic systems. The products and innovations of electrical engineering and electronics increasingly determine the speed and quality of technical progress. For this, their technical feasibility presents less and less a guideline for our actions, but rather what does is the sustainable utilisation
for mankind in his environment. This is especially true for the area of energy technology.

Students at the Jülich campus are educated in electric energy technology from the numerous special areas of electronic engineering. In all the key fields, systemic methods are primarily conveyed to help the students deal with electronic engineering problems, all of which lay a foundation for life-long learning for all graduates.

On the campus during studies, modern electronic engineering and mechanical components and systems are presented which will be applied to help the students master future tasks. Through numerous practica, the students can deepen the knowledge they have obtained from lectures and practical exercises. Measuring, control and feedback control systems are applied here as are electrical drive systems and magnetic fi eld technology, electrical energy production and distribution, and high-voltage technology.

Electrical energy technology deals with the production, distribution and transformation of electrical energy. A safe, reliable, inexpensive and environmentally sound energy supply is one of the central pillars of our industrial society. Securing a worldwide energy supply is one of the most important challenges of the future.

A great advantage for international students is that the first two semesters of the Bachelor's program are taught in English! During this period, students attend intensive German language lessons to prepare for the German language examination DSH 1. Bilingual education plus innovative degree programs give our students the best of both worlds - an excellent command of cutting edge technology and exceptional communication skills.

Contents

The fields of activity can be selected from the following areas:

o Research and Development
o Management and Organisation
o Long and Short-Term Project Planning
o Construction and Manufacturing
o Operation and Maintenance
o Assembly and Initial Operation
o Quality Assurance
o Sales and Marketing
o Documentation and Administration
o Initial and Further Training

Through the development of new technologies, connected with the utilisation of computer-supported programme systems and new communication technologies, new and extremely exciting professional fields of activity have arisen for graduates. Thanks to the wide basic knowledge they obtain on the basis of a field of study, qualified electrical engineers who are able to keep pace with the quick changes of technology in these areas have excellent career opportunities today and in the future. Currently there is a lack of highly qualified electrical engineers; this will probably continue to increase. Therefore, as a rule, graduates can find an interesting job quickly and without any problems.
