The IE programme offer the following general and specialized competences:

· Knowledge, understanding and use of basic concepts of Computer Science and of the fundamental methods of software systems development and maintenance.

· Ability to work independently and/or in a team in order to solve problems in defined proffesional contexts.

· Ability to use modern information technologies to typewrite papers and documents, process information and manage different databases, specific to activities in different types of economic, administrative, educational and research institutions.

· Ability to model, simulate and solve some real world problems of economical, scientific and technical nature.

· Ability to be rapidly accustomed to new concepts and technologies as they appear in the field of Computer Science.

· Ability to analyze, synthesize and model fenomena and processes characteristic to economy, industrial and scientific fields using adequate mathematical, statistical, computational and informatical methods.

· Ability to create, design, implement, test and update software products using more operating systems and programming languages/environments, respectively development methodologies.

· Ability to provide consultancy to create, design, develop and maintain software applications and products in any domain involving advanced mathematical and informatical modelling.

· Ability to develop programms according to specifications, using procedural, object oriented, declarative languages and database management systems.

· Ability to operate, use and administer computer systems and networks.

· Ability to use and maintain software products.


Contents

Students at the Information Engineering programme must enroll in the following courses: Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Physics, Programming and Programming Languages, Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, Discrete Mathematics, Numerical methods, Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algowithms, Geometry, Differential Equations, Advanced Programming Methods, Computer System Architecture, Databases, Functional and Logic Programming, Probability Thoery and Statistics, Software Engineering, Transaction Management and Distributed Databases, Operating Systems, Microprocessors Assisted Design, Formal Languages and Compiler Design Methods, Software Systems Modeling, Equations of Mathematical Physics, Systems Theory, Information Theory, Systems for Design and Implementation, Elements of Computer Graphics, Computer Networks, Software Systems Verification and Validation, Artificial Intelligence, Processes Modeling and Simulation, Management of Information at Organisational Level, Virtual Instrumentation, Web Programming, Basics of Economy, Experimental Data processing, Integrated Information Systems, Non-sequential Programming Paradigms.

The programme also allows students to choose from a wide variety of optional and facultative courses. Students are expected to study one foreign language (English), with the possibility to study one more language if they wish to.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Requirements

Self-sponsored EU citizens follow the same admission procedures as Romanian citizens.

A precondition for application is the recognition of the study certificates (high school, BA) by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation. Our office can assist EU citizens in gettingthis recognition, by collecting and sending their files further to the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation. The application file must comprise the following documents:

* Certified copy of the following documents translated into Romanian/English/ French or German, in case the originals are not written in one of the languages mentioned above:
a) High-school graduation diploma
b) Transcript of Records for high-school studies
c) Birth certificate
d) Marriage certificate (if the applicant's last name changed subsequent to marriage)
* Medical certificate
* Passport copy
* Four passport-size photographs
* Application form

A compulsory entry requirement for each applicant is an English language certificate, which must be attached to the application form. The applicant not having such a certificate may achieve one after the application process, but not later than October 1, 2010.

Entry requirements:

* Baccalaureate grade - meaning 20% of the admittance score;
* High school graduation mark - meaning 40% of the admittance score;
* Year grade for the following high school courses: History, Philosophy, Economics (if some courses were studied for more than one year, the applicant must pick the grade of a single year)

The grade of an optional course from the area of the European Studies (History of Europe, European Idea, Philosophy of the European Unification, History of the European Economy, European Political Structures, Communitarian Diplomacy, Knowledge about the European Union, Human Rights, Basics of European Union Law, The Economics of Transition, Economic and Regional Geography, European Integration, History of International Relations, Theories of European Integration, European Literature and Civilization, etc.), as the applicants wishes, also 40% of the admittance score.

Non-EU citizens:

Foreign applicants who want to enroll at Universitatea Babes-Bolyai as self
sponsored students have two choices:
1. Submit their documents to the Department of European Affairs and
International Relations within the Ministry of Education, Research and
Innovation (28-30, Gen. Berthelot Street, 010168 Bucharest, Romania, Phone
no: +40 21 405 62 00) until August 31st , 2009.
2. Submit their documents directly to Universitatea Babes-Bolyai, Centre for
International Cooperation (68 Avram Iancu St., 400083 Cluj-Napoca, Phone no:
+40 264 429 762 ext 6023).
The deadline for applications at Universitatea Babes-Bolyai is August 10th, 2009.
