Internationally Oriented Studies (IOS) is a study program for international and German students. The IOS program offers the opportunity to receive an excellent engineering education, make international contacts, learn German and explore the possibilities of studying abroad.

In the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering program students actively lay the foundation for their future careers. Our Jülich campus offers modern, flexible study programs with an emphasis on teaching professional competence and a methodical approach.

Graduates demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and sense of responsibility in their studies and later careers. Students have the freedom to choose one area of their studies according to their individual aptitudes and interests. Thanks to the intensive research undertaken in the individual areas of expertise (which students are allowed to choose from during their main period of study) the FH Aachen is able to offer students a program at the cutting edge of science and engineering. The program appeals to students because of its practically-oriented focus, varied collaborations with industry and research institutions, the opportunity of taking part in a semester abroad and active participation in current research projects, all which mean that graduates of our program are highly welcome in both research and industry.

A great advantage for international students is that the first two semesters of the Bachelor's program are taught in English! During this period, students attend intensive German language lessons to prepare for the German language examination DSH 1. Bilingual education plus innovative degree programs give our students the best of both worlds - an excellent command of cutting edge technology and exceptional communication skills.

In today´s world, an awareness of health issues is increasing along with the desire for a higher quality of life for everyone. The demand for optimal medical care is growing despite the ever-increasing costs of health care. Over the next few years, the number of people over 80 years of age is set to triple, all of whom will be in need of comprehensive medical care. These are just a few reasons why Biomedical Engineering will continue to be a huge growth area in the future. The problems of rising costs in our health care system make innovative biomedical technology an absolute necessity.

Think for example about imaging processes such as x-rays or magnetic resonance imaging, life support systems such as pace makers or breathing apparatus, of diagnostic tools using biological and chemical substances on a molecular level, such as blood sugar measurements or DNA analysis. You too could play your part in designing innovative biomedical products! You can learn both the fundamentals of engineering and the necessary specialist knowledge here at our university.

The task of the engineers at the FH Aachen in the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering program is to transfer knowledge from the fields of science and research into clear, technical concepts, which remain feasible after a tenable investment of material and effort. Successfully completing this program opens doors to promising careers in the following areas:

o Research and development
o Medical equipment technology and product development
o Biomedical applications
o Production and application technology
o Quality control
o Customer service and technical support
o Service and consulting.

The FH Aachen places great value on the fact that teaching materials and course content are kept completely up-to-date in terms of the latest research developments. At the end of the Bachelor in Biomedical Engineering, students have at their disposal a wide-ranging integrated knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles of their subject.

During their studies, students acquire a critical understanding of the basic theories, principles and methods of their study program, and are in a position to independently improve upon and deepen their knowledge. Through rigorous training, students gain a good measure of problem-solving skills, so that they are able to bring this facility to bear on problem-solving tasks in their specialist area in order to independently acquire and develop real-life solutions.

Moreover, students gain the ability to collect and interpret data and to infer scientifically-based judgements from it, as well as to implement appropriate solutions which take into account social, scientific and ethical issues and independently to construct continuous learning processes.

They learn how to formulate and defend opinions and solutions with reference to their specific field, and to exchange information, ideas, problems and solutions with experts and lay people, and work responsibility in a team.

The lecture courses in the first two semesters are given in English. This enables students to gain important language skills in this, the most important language in the world, which will help to qualify students for an international engineering career.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
