You will follow a common core programme of first year modules which aims to build a firm and broad foundation for further study:

* elements of economics
* economic methods
* the world economy.

In your second and third year you will take options from a wide range of modules and can specialise as your interests develop. You also have the opportunity to extend your course to four years by taking year three as an industrial placement or an international exchange.

Contents

In Economics and Politics, you can adjust the balance of subjects, with a maximum of seven of the 12 modules in the final two years (years two and three) going to the major subject.

In year one, in addition to the economics core modules - elements of economics, economic methods, the world economy - you take a further two core modules exploring ideas and ideologies, and politics, state and society and chose one further module from a selection covering international security and organisation, global regions in international relations, and theory and history in international relations.

In year two, you study two core modules looking at the principles of macro and micro economics; one module chosen from a selection that includes business competition, corporate finance, economics of social policy, European economics, intermediate methods for economics and finance, and data analysis; and three further modules chosen from BA Politics.

In year three, you choose four modules from a selection that includes applied econometrics, development economics, history of economic thought, industrial organisation, labour economics, international economics, monetary economics, environmental economics and policy, public economics, advanced macro and micro economic theory, security investment analysis, financial theory and corporate policy, and those on offer on BA Politics; and produce a dissertation in either Economics or Politics (double module).
