Looking for a degree that is specifically tailored to the needs of the tourism industry, which combines theory and practice? Then this is the right place: The Tourism Management degree program is focused on prospective students seeking a career in the global tourism industry.
We provide comprehensive business and tourism-specific expertise that enables you to take over management responsibilities in tourism companies worldwide. In addition, important disciplines such as intercultural competence and social responsibility are integrated into the program.

The course follows an interdisciplinary approach oriented, solid business expertise is complemented by high level of linguistic and tourism training. Case studies were included in all study phases to ensure a constant reference to practice.

The course in Tourism Management (TM) includes 7 semesters, which include both theoretical and practical courses.

Course of Study: 1st and 2nd Semesters: In the first two semesters, the focus of teaching is on basic economics. These include lectures in the subjects of business administration and economics, law and business organization. Furthermore, important analytical skills will be acquired in the fields of accounting, mathematics, statistics and IT. In addition to language skills, students will gain the ability to understand the tourist market and the major service providers.

3rd and 4th Semesters: In the 3rd and 4th semesters, the focus of teaching is on business functions, such as Marketing and Finance Controlling. The already acquired basic knowledge of general economics is now deepened with regard to tourism in several subjects. This is done both in theoretical and practical lessons. In special lectures social and intercultural skills can be trained. The negotiation skills in English and Spanish will be expanded.

5th Semester: The student has to complete an 18-week internship at a tourist company at home or abroad. In addition, there are two in-service courses (PLV-week) at the university and / or during the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin.

6th and 7th Semesters: In the last two semesters, students specialize. In addition to the assignment of electives you choose 3 out of 5 offered expertise. The Bachelor thesis should be written in the seventh semester.

Degree: "Bachelor of Arts (Degree in Tourism Management).

Languages: The two main languages of the tourism industry (English and Spanish) will accompany you during your study time. Our goal is the negotiation skills of both languages. In addition, other foreign languages from a wide range of languages can be selected.

Optimal learning environment: The number of places is limited. This allows close contact between teachers and students. The University of Deggendorf is also known for its family atmosphere.

Specialization: In the 6th and 7th semesters, students specialize with regard to their individual interests.

Study abroad: The University Deggendorf has extensive global contacts with partner universities; therefore, students are offered the opportunity to spend a semester abroad.

ITB Berlin: The University of Deggendorf is represented with its own stand at the world's largest tourism fair in Berlin. The students are involved in stand planning and support (i.e. they learn practical marketing and sales work). The ITB, which is organized by the student association DEG.Tour-SeV is also an ideal platform to establish contacts with tourism companies around the world. As visitors, students have the possibility of visiting interesting lectures from renowned tourism companies. Qualifying as an in-service course (PLV), the visit to the ITB will be accredited.

Career

The tourism industry is the sunrise industry of the 21st century. In Germany alone, it generates about 3 million jobs. The professional application ranges from management positions with classical performers - such as airlines, airports, hotels, catering, tour operators,-middle, and target areas ,event management, to the modern reservation systems. Students have a very good chance of finding an adequate job after completing this degree course.


Requirements

Currently, about 65 applicants are admitted in the degree program Tourism Management. Here, the selection is based on grade point average and any waiting periods. For applicants with less than 12 months of professional experience, we recommend a tourist pre-study internship of at least 6 weeks.

Entrance qualifications

The pre-requisite for a course of study at the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences is the general qualification for university entrance, or rather the subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification. Admission to the Deggendorf University occurs yearly and is open until June 15th (end of application period). Students in higher semesters can also apply for a summer semester (end of application period: January 15th).
