Each semester has its own theme linking the courses of the semester. The themes during the study programme ensure academic progression and coherence in the programme which is concluded with the engineering internship and the final project.
The semester themes are:
- Discover Mechatronics
- Build Mechatronics
- Develop Mechatronics
- Mechatronics and the Environment
- Experts in teams
- Engineering internship
- Final project
Discover Mechatronics
In the first semester you learn about the mechatronic development process. You are introduced to the various disciplines, are tasked to build a model of a mechatronic product with a group of students, and you will experience - in theory and in practice - why it works (or why it doesn´t!).
Build Mechatronics
In the second semester the task is to build a product which is able to move autonomously. The subjects are mechanical design, embedded systems and the underlying mathematics and physics plus an introduction to cybernetics. These subjects all deal with dynamics and motion.
Develop Mechatronics
In the third semester focus is on the development of intelligent mechatronic systems. Lessons are given in electronics, mechanics, sensors, actuators and the underlying theory. Moreover, you develop an intelligent product, i.e. a product which includes mechanics, electronics and software.
Mechatronics and the Environment
In the fourth semester you learn advanced aspects of mechatronics including thermo dynamics, advanced regulation technique and you are introduced to the specialisation you choose (nanotechnology, embedded systems or dynamic mechatronic systems). The semester project is based on the chosen profile and the possibility for practical application.
Experts in teams
In the fifth semester instruction continues in advanced mechatronic systems, regulation technique and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering), and your chosen specialisation. In cooperation with a private company, the semester project is carried out in interdisciplicary groups and you will be the expert in your professional field. The project assignment must result in a working prototype. Aside from the engineering skills focus is on teamwork and entrepreneurship.
Engineering internship
In the sixth semester you y out the engineering internship in a private company, and companies usually pay interns a salary. In the company you work in an engineering division where you carry out one or more assignments during the semester. This way you apply the gained knowledge in practice in the "real world".
Final project
In the seventh semester you carry out you final project in cooperation with a private company. For the project you have two supervisors, one from the university and one from the company. You solve an engineering assignment - typically a development assignment on which your final examination is based.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testOnly a limited number of students are accepted for the BEng programme each year. Below you can read about the requirements for entering the BEng programme in Mechatronics.
The Bachelor of Engineering - Mechatronics requires the Upper Secondary School Leaving Certificate, the Higher Technical Examination ('HTX'), the Higher Commercial Examination ('HHX'), the Higher Preparatory Examination ('HF'), or the equivalent to one of the above mentioned.
Applicants must include information about the levels (O/A levels, IGCSE, GCE A-levels, Higher/Subsidiary level, number of hours, number of years of studying at school and university, and detailed course descriptions) in the subjects: Mathematics (highest level), English and Physics (minumum at intermediate level) and Chemistry (basic level).
Foreign students applying must have the IELTS-test with a minimum of 6.5 in the oral test and 6.5 in the overall test. (See for more information).
Applicants from a country within the European Union or the EEA are not required to pass either an IELTS or a TOEFL test if they demonstrate knowledge of English corresponding with English at B level as a minimum.
The entry requirements can not be waived.
For additional information please refer to the programme website.
| Minimal degree required: | High School diploma |
