A unique chemical engineering program has been designed for the METU Northern Cyprus Campus. The over fifty years of experience from the chemical engineering program of the METU Ankara Campus, has been blended with the current trends and future expectations of the industry, to come up with a program aiming to educate the next generation of chemical engineers, who are expected to assume new responsibilities in addition to the more conventional ones. In this respect the traditional backbone of the modern chemical engineering program has been retained. Thus it is aimed for the graduates to have a solid background in fundamental sciences, mathematics, engineering sciences, the unit operations, thermodynamics and reaction engineering, and engineering design and economics. In addition to a solid background in sciences and engineering, the graduates will have the necessary background and understanding of ethical responsibilities, environmental, occupational health and safety issues, and will have developed life-long learning habits. From the sixth semester on, the program gives an opportunity to the students to follow one of two tracks: the resources engineering track (Track A) and the chemical product engineering track (Track B). There is flexibility in both tracks with a significant number of elective course choices. The graduates of our program are expected to be highly sought as they will have developed an expertise either in resource or chemical product engineering. Resource engineering will particularly emphasize sustainable material and energy utilisation. Chemical product engineering, however will emphasize the production of specific products, such as ceramics, plastics, composites, dyes and paints.
