If you´re looking for a degree in business studies - in The Netherlands or elsewhere - the choice is overwhelming. So how do you make your choice?. Our International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) programme is unique, because of its international focus and hands-on work experience. 70% of our students are non Dutch, originating from over 90 different countries. And so is our staff!
Multi-cultural
If your ambitions lie in the world arena, you need that extra international perspective. Our International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) programme is different to the others, because we offer the curriculum - in English - to an international multi-cultural group of students.
Nowhere else will you enjoy working with such a group of diverse nationalities. At The Hague University students come from over 80 different nationalities. By studying and working abroad, you´ll get the real, hands-on experience you need for a rewarding career.
Study and work experience abroad
We believe in putting learning into practice. You´ll have the unique opportunity to study in a partner university abroad, and do an internship within an international company, as part of your programme.
Our projects and assignments reach further than the textbooks. You´ll delve into the work ethics of actual companies and get familiar with the real world of business during your studies here.
International Business and Management Studies programme (IBMS) is a four-year course. Each academic year is split into two semesters - the entire study programme is eight semesters long.
Our academic year starts in September and ends in mid-July. We have a six-week summer holiday and two weeks off at Christmas. Each semester is also split into two half-terms, both six weeks long. There´s a week-long break between each half-term (in February/March, May and October).
Each half-term includes one test or assignment period. Exams take place twice a year.
Your Foundation Year
Your first two semesters make up your foundation year - a general introduction to the core business subjects.
In your foundation year, we´ll see if you´ve really got what it takes to complete the programme. If you pass this year, you´ll be invited to continue your studies. As the first year is so important, unsuccessful students may have to leave the programme. All foundation modules must be completed by the end of your second year in order to continue on the programme.
In the second year you can choose a minor, next to our major program. With a minor you can either specialize or widen your scope. IBMS currently offers minors in Branding, Business-to-Business Marketing, Financial Markets and Human Resource Management and Languages. But we are continuously developing new minors, to keep up with the trends in the market. You also have the possibility of choosing entirely different minors from other programmes in The Hague University.
After one more semester in third year, the travel begins. In the second semester of year three, you´ll get to go abroad and study at an international partner university. While you´re here, we´ll expose you to as many international and cross-cultural experiences as possible. We have over 150 partner institutions, all over the globe. We send hundreds of students to study or do work placements abroad - from the US and Europe to South Africa and South America, from the Far East to the Middle East.
The following semester, it´s time for real business. In semester seven you´ll do an internship with an international company.
The final steps
Fresh from your business experience abroad, it´s back to The Hague in semester eight to finish your programme. During this final semester, you´ll complete your modules and complete an exciting consultancy project for a company or organisation - the Final Integrated Project.
The IBMS programme will be your major. Next to that you can choose minors. Both in second year and on your study abroad you can choose either to specialize or widen your scope.

Taking the right minor can help lay the foundations for further studies. At The Hague University, you can get your Master´s degree in just 12 months - or 15 months if you choose the part-time course.
The IBMS programme is also ideal for budding accountants - you´ll gain the right knowledge to progress to your chartered accountant qualifications.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Scholarships are very popular nowadays and a subject considered by nearly every student who decides to study abroad. In the following sections we will try to give you the most recent and essential information about scholarship opportunities for international students in the Netherlands.
Scholarships in your home country
If you’re an international student it’s worth checking out if any scholarships are available in your home country. For example, American students can apply for a Fulbright scholarship and there is an EU-South Africa Scholarship programme for South African students. Your country may offer similar grants. For more information or application forms contact your local Dutch embassy - or ask your present college or university if you are coming here for a bachelor programme. www.grantfinder.nl also has some useful information on scholarships.
Nuffic
The Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic) offers a variety of additional scholarships for students from all over the world. Erasmus Mundus is a new European Commission programme that aims to improve the quality of European higher education and encourage co-operation with countries outside the EU.
