In a world that is growing ever closer, where organisations are becoming bigger and more multinational, it is increasingly difficult and important for organisations to communicate effectively with all of their stakeholders. Technology only increases these challenges. Organisations have an ever-increasing demand for people who not only understand this but can also devise policy and manage communication.
You...
As a communications specialist in an organisation, you look after the internal and external communication. You enjoy giving an organisation a particular image. But you´re also busy behind the scene. You coordinate the publication of the company magazine and advise management. One day you´ll be advising the board, the next you´re addressing a client or curious journalist. In each situation, you have to hit the right tone. You have strong verbal skills and are skilled with the pen. Working in teams is second nature to you.
Good communication advisors have a broad development and wide interests. You follow the news, read the newspaper and make regular use of the internet. You know what´s going on in society and can place events in their context.
...and us
Communications is limitless. Our educational environment is international and multicultural. We are in touch with some 150 universities abroad. We can use these relationships when you want to go abroad as an exchange student. Follow some media training in Spain or a work placement abroad? No problem with us.
Our programme is new. This means that the programme includes the latest insights and developments in the field. As of day one, you´ll be involved in the practical side of the profession, and you´ll be given all sorts of concrete assignments. These are often explained by people from business. We work together closely and regularly with external clients and many of our lecturers are themselves from business.
Our teacher team works together closely with the students. The contact between students and teachers is informal. You receive a lot of attention and are assisted closely. Each student has his or her own study career advisor. The programme is small scale and there is a personal atmosphere. Please note that the level of English in this programme is high.
You regularly get together with your project group, work on the project assignment (often together but also individually) and discuss the progress with the coaching assistant.
During the study you will cover the key areas of communication management:
A growing number of minors that allow students to further specialise - such as Journalism & Media, Cross-Cultural Communication and Management, Philosophy, Art & Culture, Representation & Discourse, and Sustainable Management.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
More informationThis three-year programme is very intensive, and taught entirely in English. Taking the ICM programme is just like having a full-time job. Before you apply, you should consider that carefully.

English language skills

Scholarships are very popular nowadays and a subject considered by nearly every student who decides to study abroad. In the following sections we will try to give you the most recent and essential information about scholarship opportunities for international students in the Netherlands.
Scholarships in your home country
If you’re an international student it’s worth checking out if any scholarships are available in your home country. For example, American students can apply for a Fulbright scholarship and there is an EU-South Africa Scholarship programme for South African students. Your country may offer similar grants. For more information or application forms contact your local Dutch embassy - or ask your present college or university if you are coming here for a bachelor programme. www.grantfinder.nl also has some useful information on scholarships.
Nuffic
The Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic) offers a variety of additional scholarships for students from all over the world. Erasmus Mundus is a new European Commission programme that aims to improve the quality of European higher education and encourage co-operation with countries outside the EU.
