Consumers demand quality foods of animal origin that are produced by healthy animals kept under conditions that guarantee animal welfare. There is an increasing awareness of the benefits of animal health and animal welfare for producing economically. Animal health and welfare has been given a high priority both at the EU policy level and at National levels within the countries of the EU.
Graduates of this programme will have first-hand knowledge of practice in one of the most successful EU countries in animal production taking into professional consideration the animal welfare and animal health. A study in professional competencies for those positions in Industry, NGO´s, Government and other national and international institutions where animal health and / or animal welfare is an important topic. The professional tasks given to professionals in these positions are the backbone of your study.
Successful graduates will be competent in the following areas of expertise:
o Specific and in-depth knowledge of animal health and welfare
o Knowledge of principles of EU and national policies
o Epidemiological research and applications competencies
o Policy making and policy implementation competencies
o Marketing and sales competencies
What does the course involve? There are three stages:
Orientation and Planning (Period 1),a set of three units aimed on general management and analysis competencies:
o Settling in a new job
o Implementing health care policy
o Managing external relations
Policy and Management (Period 2), three units dealing with international politics and management analysis in the livestock production:
o Policy formulation for the livestock sector
o Sales and account manager
o Research animal health and welfare
Synthesis and Proof of Proficiency (Period 3), two larger units dealing with a full-time traineeship in a middle management job, and proof of scientific and academic expertise in researching, writing and defending an Ingenieur Thesis relevant to the sector.
o Company placement
o Thesis
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testWho can enrol? Successful applicants for the course must have:
o completed at least three years of university study in agriculture or a related subject
o a minimum 550 score in the TOEFL test of English or a formally recognised equivalent such as the IELTS (level 6.0)
o the ability to formulate coherently in written English, and to have a vision of the chosen area of interest. Essay writing is part of the selection procedure
o strong motivation to be successful in the sector
o team spirit, a flexible attitude in an international working environment
o funding in the form of a grant or a stipend, or private means
