Animal production in Europe faces important challenges on how and where to produce for increasingly demanding consumers and a competitive market. The future managers and advisors in the animal production sector need more than ever firsthand knowledge about innovative techniques in animal production and skills of international business management. Graduates of this course will have first-hand knowledge of animal production in the Netherlands. With modern farms and international oriented companies and institutes one of the leading EU countries in this field. Graduates will gain valuable insight into the contrasts in production techniques, business culture and work ethics existing between regions in Europe.

A study in professional competencies for those positions in companies, industry, government and other national and international institutions where animal production is an important topic. The professional tasks given to professionals in these positions are the backbone of your study.
Successful graduates will be competent to work in the following areas of expertise:
o Consultancy and advice in livestock production
o Development of marketing and marketing strategies for livestock products
o Employment in policy institues at national and international level (EU)


Contents

What does the course involve? There are three stages:
Orientation and Planning (Period 1), a set of three units aimed on general management and analysis competencies:
o Settling in a new job
o Consultancy and advice; advising livestock owners
o Sales/Account manager; marketing, livestock product knowledge

Policy and Management (Period 2), three units dealing with international politics and management analysis in the livestock
production:
o Policy formulation for the livestock sector
o Policy advising, lobbying, EU affairs
o Entrepreneurship for primary production
o Making a business plan, special entrepreneurial advice
o Livestock analysis and research

Synthesis and Proof of Proficiency (Period 3), two larger units dealing with a full-time traineeship in a middle management job,
and proof of scientific and academic expertise in researching, writing and defending
an Ingenieur Thesis relevant to the sector.
o Company placement
o Thesis

IELTS

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Who can enrol? Successful applicants for the course must have:
o completed at least three years of university study in agriculture or a related subject
o a minimum 550 score in the TOEFL test of English or a formally recognised equivalent such as the IELTS (level 6.0)
o the ability to formulate coherently in written English, and to have a vision of the chosen area of interest. Essay writing is part of the selection procedure
o strong motivation to be successful in the sector
o team spirit, a flexible attitude in an international working environment
o funding in the form of a grant or a stipend, or private means
