The Department of Public Relations and Advertising provides a project based education, with an approach based on creative thinking and design. During the first year, students take theoretical introductory courses in communication, information technologies, business management and public relations. Second year students continue to build on this foundation with courses in advertising, marketing and public relations.
Specialization follows in third and fourth years, when students can study the related national and international aspects of advertising and public relations. Throughout the program students also gain knowledge of such topics as media analysis, international public relations, crisis management, political communication, ethics, message design, brand strategies and consumer behaviour. An insight into these contemporary issues is also provided via conference discussions, international symposia, panels, interviews and workshops with invited specialists. In these competitive times, a specialist in public relations and advertising needs to be competant in almost all communication disciplines; proficiency in one single area is no longer enough. With this in mind, students can opt to take inter-departmental courses in script writing, production design, film production, cinematography, and photography. They also have the opportunity to participate in workshops given by specialists, to develop their multi-disciplinary working skills.
