Location of Carlos III University of Madrid

Informatics Engineers from Universidad Carlos III of Madrid will be professionals with a complete education in all the fundamental fields of Information Technology.

Their training will position them as professionals with a general profile that responds, due to their capabilities and solid education, to the expectations of the professional world, not only when they enter a company or public administration for the first time, but also in the future, since they will be prepared to become part of a field as changing as is Information Technology.

In terms of specialization, graduates can choose one of the follwing three intensifications: computer science, computer engineering, and information systems

First one is related to theoretical aspects of computing and artificial intelligence and its applications. The second one makes emphasis in the design of computing systems,
real-time and distributed systems, and their applications. The third one is related to the design and implementation of software and database systems for the enterprise.

In addition to this purely technical education, graduates will have received training in communication skills, humanities and languages, which will strengthen their ability to compete in areas of personal communication, efficiency in transmitting their knowledge and ease in forming part of national and international teams.

After receiving the education for this degree, the graduate will be able to work in any company in the sector. Some of the most professionalized fields within this sector are: computing centers, research and teaching centers, hardware and software companies, financial, telecommunications, technology, security entities and IT consulting companies. Within these public and private entities, the graduate will be able to carry out jobs such as:

* IT department manager.

* Communications systems manager.
* R+D manager in the TIC sector.
* Systems consultant.

* Security and systems manager
* IT systems analyst.

Recommended profile

In terms of technical and educational matters, students are recommended to have knowledge of:

* Mathematics and physics, with the foundation of a LOGSE (Law on the General Organization of the Educational System) secondary school diploma or the equivalent.
* Aptitude to deal with algorithms and processes.

Computer tools at a user level, (operating system, text processing, spreadsheet, data base...)

Students are recommended to have the following aptitudes and capabilities:

* Capacity of observation, attention and concentration.
* Aptitude for numerical reasoning and logic.
* Skills to understand and reason about abstract models that generalize particular aspects of practical cases.

In addition to the aforementioned technical and educational characteristics, students are recommended, on a personal level, to possess the following attitudes:

* Be creative, imaginative and desire innovation.
* Be organized and methodical students in their tasks.
* Be receptive, practical and open to improvising of solutions.
* Have a positive attitude towards teamwork, communication and carrying out responsibilities.
* Be interested in the development of information systems and communications systems
* Be determined to participate in ongoing learning, and with curiosity to be up to date on recent advances in science and technology.
