The degree in Journalism from the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid aims to train professionals in journalism who are able to inform in a multi-faceted way in various different types of media (including institutional or corporate information), adhering to the basic principles which govern journalism. The training also includes the latest concepts of multimedia composition in which they will create reports which can be broadcast in any medium (press, written, Internet, radio, television, mobile phone...).
This new way of composing naturally leads to changes in many working methods but it does not change the fundamental principles of journalism, such as:
* Rigorous reporting of facts and access to the necessary sources and documentation in order to find the truth behind the story;
* Criteria for discriminating between what is of public interest and what is mere curiosity about private matters;
* The capacity to recognise emerging social trends and to offer appropriate treatment to potentially conflictive social situations. Solid journalistic skills, which go far beyond "political correctness" and the manipulation of newsworthy facts, involve fostering social awareness based on tolerance, respect for human rights, equality between men and women and the enduring presence of personal dignity.
A search, in short, for knowledge without bias, distanced from all types of spurious empathy based on the sterile attention of the human factor or other forms of pretence at informing which lack all journalistic interest. The aim of this degree is to train journalists who are able to inform and demand the truth about facts, be objective, rigorous and have due respect for people; journalists who are aware of their duty to public opinion, society and ordinary citizens; aware of their role in the smooth functioning of a democratic society based on decision-making of public relevance from knowledge of those issues which are of special socio-political importance.

* Journalists whose sensitivity, the result of knowledge, makes them creators of media content that transmits general and specific knowledge, letting the public know and recognize the framework of realities that make up the world they have to live in.
