For many years now, the technologies related to audio, image and video have been playing a significant role in our society. However, over the last years these technologies have increased their presence, fundamentally due to digital formats and the tremendous accessibility of telecommunications.
As a consequence, there is a demand from diverse sectors for qualified professionals with a higher level of training than what is currently offered in similar branches of vocational training, and who have solid technical knowledge as well as leadership qualities for human teams and projects. It is no wonder that this profile is one of the most in demand by students who enter the University.
Furthermore, it is interesting to emphasize that this degree´s potential has grown due to its transformation into a four-year degree, according to the model proposed by the European Higher Education Area ("Bologna"), as it stresses more general training, making later professional development easy for future degree holders, and the students´ training in transversal capabilities such as learning ability or teamwork.
The content of this degree includes, in addition to classic training in audio and image (electronic, electroacoustics, etc.), advanced aspects about multimedia information processing ad transmitting.
This degree trains graduates in the following areas:
* Professional: In-depth knowledge of the specific technologies related to audiovisual systems and capability to apply them in different areas. Ability to access new knowledge in the specific area of audiovisual systems, and in general, in telecommunications. Work habits and independent performance of responsibilities that have been taken on. Capacity of analysis and synthesis, and critical approach to technological reality. Ability to work on a team and good organizational skills.
* Economic-business, which enables them to understand the focus of engineering as an economic activity carried out within a more general framework, although preferably linked to the Information Society;
* Social-humanist, to exercise the profession in a collective environment (techniques of oral and written expression, languages, etc.), to know the reality of their professional environment (regulatory framework, regulation) and to gain awareness of the social dimension of their activities (security, environmental protection, professional ethics,...), from a critical point of view.
