Today’s business life demands graduates who are trained to look across borders and are familiar with working with people from different countries and cultures. The course IBMS enables students to acquire wide knowledge of international management, organisation, marketing and finance. Furthermore, relevant professional skills like intercultural teamwork, planning and oral communication are developed and in all aspects there is close contact with the professional field.
Multiple Degree
The IBMS programme is a 4-year programme. Because we educate you for a career in international business all students spend time abroad. It is even possible to opt for a Multiple Degree (double or even triple). In that case you study for a longer period in the country of your choice. A Multiple Degree will give you a degree of Avans University of Applied Sciences and a degree of one of our partner institutes. We have Multiple Degree partners in the USA, Germany, France, Italy and the UK. So you will definitely broaden your horizon when studying with us.

The backbone of all IBMS majors is the same. However, in all units of study (see the programme structure of all majors) you will get extra lessons dedicated to the character and content of your major. In addition, all projects will be linked to the content of your major.

Strategic Digital Marketing
The external environment of companies has changed a lot and shall even alter further and faster especially for companies active in an international setting. Competition has a new character thanks to or due to online possibilities. Globalization and technology innovations provide companies with new ways of doing business, building and maintaining their competitive advantage.
And most important: today’s customer behavior, irrespective whether you are active in the B2B market or in the B2C market is changing rapidly and tremendously. What hasn’t changed is that the marketer can only be successful if he is able to adapt to the wants and needs of his global customers. So all marketers must be able to understand the new challenges and opportunities that have arisen in this online time span.
Next to consumer behavior there are also other aspects of modern business that need integrating in the marketers mind:

European Union Policies
After completing the minor European Union Policies you should be able to understand European issues like this and you will be able to find your way in “Brussels”, the informal capital of the European Union. You will deal with the evolution of the European Union, the relation of European business to the growth of the single market, and the importance of policies to ensure competition in a more integrated and enlarged European Union. Attention will be paid to the institutional, economic, legal and political aspects of European integration and their consequences for businesses. The 3 pillars of the minor consist of European law, European economics and European politics.
In the knowledge line of every week you will study and discuss a European business/policy in tutor group meetings, training sessions lectures. In the skills training sessions you will deal with debating and negotiating. In project groups you will investigate for instance European decision making, European regional projects, European competition law. Finally you will write an individual paper in which you investigate a particular problem related to the European Union in depth. Although a list of subjects will be provided you can chose your own topic as well.
In April or May the main European cities and institutions will be visited during a 4 day excursion, which will bring you to Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.
Cross-cultural Management and Languages (Major IBMS)
Cross Cultural Management and Languages (CML) is a major within International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) that prepares students for a career in international profit, non-governmental organisations (NGO's) as well as governmental institutions such as those that pertain to the EU and national governments. The course covers topics in the field of international management and communications, international law and cross cultural relationships. In addition CML students will be taught in English and in two other languages.
You must complete a work placement in the second semester of the second year. This placement preferably will be carried out in a country where the native language is the same as one of the languages chosen by you. The final semester of year 4 consists of a graduation assignment for a company or NGO, during which you have to show that you are able to perform at an appropriate level in an international environment.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

The minor is open to all interested students who have passed the first two years of higher education and have a basic knowledge of marketing and business principles. Because the language of instruction is English all students must master the English language sufficiently. At least a level equal to or higher than B1.

Although the minor is open to any interested and hardworking student, an economic background and active and passive English skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing) will help you to follow the minor successfully.
