Would you like to make a difference in the world of international finance? Are you analytical by nature and a good communicator? Are you keen to improve your English? If so, choose our Accounting and Finance programme. It all adds up!
These days, more and more companies are operating on an international scale, but as international opportunities grow, so do the risks. Many businesses need professionals trained in international finance. However, being a finance manager is about more than just adding up figures and counting cash. It is about being able to be the key player in a complicated business situation. If you are up for this challenge, the full-time, four-year bachelor's degree programme in Accounting and Finance will help you achieve your goals.
Are your analytical skills well-developed? Are you able to discover where key problems lie? And are you smart enough to see the bigger picture? Can you share your views with others in a team? Are you not only able to convince people of your own opinion but also prepared to listen to other team members? If you want to be a professional capable of working in an international environment with a sound knowledge of business finance and accounting, you should enrol on the Accounting and Finance bachelor's degree programme at Inholland University of Applied Sciences.
This English bachelor programme is only offered at location Haarlem.
This programme is offered as the English stream of the Dutch Bedrijfseconomie course at Inholland University of Applied Sciences. It will prepare you for a wide range of careers in the demanding and exciting world of international finance. It will also train you to communicate and work with people from other cultures and to solve problems related to international business, management and accountancy.
You could earn two degrees in four years - a British degree perhaps, and the Inholland University of Applied Sciences Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). At the end of the course, these students will also have spent an entire year in a different study environment, thus gaining a huge amount of international experience.
Like all our bachelor's degrees, the Accounting and Finance programme is based on a major/minor model. This means the programme consists of a major part and a so called minor part. You will major in financial subjects, such as Management Accounting, Financial Accounting and Corporate Financial Management. In the minors, you will reach the level of specialist in the core competencies of an accountant. You will also broaden your skills and knowledge in other financial subjects, such as:
The course will also provide communication skills training.
The Accounting and Finance programme in Haarlem is taught in English from the second year on. This makes it an excellent choice if you want an international career in finance or if you wish to give your Dutch Bedrijfseconomie course an international dimension. What is more, in your third year you may be able to study at one of our partner universities in the UK. These are:
Not only will this opportunity help to broaden your outlook, you will also develop skills in English communication, and you will have the chance to take up options offered by the partner university. If you complete this year successfully, you may be awarded a BA degree or certificate by the partner university, depending on the arrangements we have made with the partner university.
By the time you graduate from this programme, you will be an Accounting and Finance specialist. You will:
At Inholland University of Applied Sciences, we have student counsellors who can help you with issues that may be affecting your studies. We also have student career advisors who will provide personal development and career coaching.
You will first enrol as a student to the first year of a Bedrijfseconomie course of Inholland. If you have plans to give your studies an international dimension by choosing the Accounting & Finance study stream, you will communicate this with the course leader. The Accounting & Finance programme after the first year is offered at the Haarlem location of the Bedrijfseconomie course of Inholland. You will of course also receive extra information on this A&F route during your first year. Students who wish to continue in the Accounting & Finance stream at Haarlem will be accepted to this course if they have at least acquired 55 EC's (credit points) in one year of study at a Bedrijfseconomie course at one of the Inholland locations. Having a mark of at least 6 for English in the first year is also a minimum requirement.
You will continue your second year from the Haarlem location, which is -from then on- taught in English language.
The core modules of this course are:
Project work is part of the assessment structure for every year. We will also train you in the use of Excel, Access and business information packages. We will help you improve your proficiency in English language and develop your skills in project work, management and presentations. You will also sit examinations and tests.
After your first year on one of our Dutch Bedrijfseconomie courses, you will be able to take this track in the second year, if you wish. The first and second years are divided into semesters, and each semester has two terms of ten weeks. The projects, lectures, exams and other activities are organised around these semesters and terms. Examinations are generally held at the end of each term.
The second year is taught entirely in English. The class will be an international classroom with Dutch students and students of other nationalities taking the Accounting & Finance courses. You will work together in international groups on projects and prepare for your third year abroad.
The projects will reflect the central theme of each term, such as:
Entry into the second year is under strict supervision of the Exam Board of the Inholland Bedrijfseconomie course.
In the third year, you will be offered the opportunity to attend one of the partner schools in the UK for one year of study, provided the Exam Board of the course agrees on the programme that you are following at the partner institution. You will also do exams in your core modules and submit coursework, just like any student in the third year at this university. Exams in the core subjects (management Accounting, Corporate Finance and Financial Accounting) are generally at the end of the year. All of these modules are offered at a higher level during this third year.
In the final year, you will return to the Netherlands to complete your studies with a work placement and a dissertation in business practice. You will receive your Bachelor of Economics degree from Inholland University of Applied Sciences after you have successfully completed this year. You will also then receive your British degree, but this depends on the arrangements we have made with the partner university.
The placement and dissertation are entirely subject to regulations of our Dutch Bedrijfseconomie course. Of course, we prefer if placements and dissertation are done in international companies, and in English language. But this is not always possible in Dutch companies.. The exam board will decide on your request to do a placement or a dissertation in Dutch language.
After successfully completing your final work placement and dissertation, you will receive your Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. This internationally recognised degree will allow you to apply for master's degree programmes in the Netherlands and abroad. You will have acquired the necessary analytical skills and you will be ready to enrol on courses in advanced accountancy and/or management accounting.
