Marketing and management are at the core of every business, whether it is local or international, private or public, non-profit, governmental or non-governmental. Marketing managers solve problems, cross cultural barriers and focus on global issues.
The bachelor's degree in Marketing Management at INHolland University of Applied Sciences will prepare you for a career in this fascinating area of business. You will learn how to become a successful and effective marketing manager in today's corporate world. You will also learn how to communicate effectively with people from different cultures and environments.
The degree will equip you with the knowledge, skills and strategic insight to help organisations respond to global demands. Not only that, it is also taught entirely in English - the international language of the business world.
When you graduate, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Economics degree (BEc.). This internationally recognised degree will allow you to apply for master's programmes in the Netherlands and abroad.
As a Marketing Management graduate, a world of opportunity will be open to you. There is a great need for graduates who can act and think globally, and speak two or more languages. Experience of working with other cultures is also extremely valuable.
Some of the highest paid jobs and most in-demand positions in business (including non-profit or governmental sectors) are marketing manager, product manager, purchasing manager, marketing communication manager, client services manager and account manager in an advertising agency.
At Inholland University of Applied Sciences, we believe in competency-driven education. This means, in addition to your individual exams, you will also work on team assignments based on real business situations (5-7 students per group). Perhaps the most unique selling point of the Marketing Management programme is its intimacy. You are not just a number; you will have plenty of personal contact with lecturers, tutors and your own study coach. Since you will be trained to work in an international environment, the entire programme will be taught in English.
The Marketing Management degree is based on the major/minor model. This means the programme consists of a major subject, a specialisation minor and a differentiation minor. The major is the core element of the bachelor's degree programme and focuses on developing a broad range of knowledge and abilities. Central to this are your personal growth and development, which are supported by the Study Coaching system. Your specialisation subjects are specific to the Marketing Management programme. The differentiation minor allows you to tailor the programme to match your personal interests and ambitions. You can select courses related to your specialisation minor or you can take courses from another educational programme.
During the final two years of the Marketing Management programme, you will have to take so-called differentiation minors. The number of differentiation minors offered in English at Inholland The Hague is very limited, so you will be encouraged to take these courses either at other Inholland locations or abroad.
You must do a work placement in your third year. You will work for a company for 23 weeks (1 semester). Your work placement will be a period of structured learning and work, during which you will perform professional marketing-related tasks in the role of an employee. Your host company will help you gain essential practical work experience relevant to your future profession. At the end of your placement, you will be expected to have become almost a fully-fledged professional, capable of handling complex tasks independently. Since your work placement will prepare you for the labour market, it may serve as a springboard for your intended career and form the foundation for your post-graduation activities.
You will be assigned your own personal study coach, who will support you throughout your studies from the moment you enter the study programme. We also have student counsellors who can help you with issues that may be affecting your studies.
It is important to find out early on whether you have chosen the right programme or not. That is why you will take part in an assessment activity during the initial stages of the first semester. Your personal qualities as well as your weaknesses and strengths will be assessed to see whether you should continue with this particular programme.
If you decide the programme is not for you, it may be possible to transfer to another one. Unfortunately, this is not all that easy with English Stream courses, especially for foreign students. Dutch-speaking students have more opportunities as they can transfer to courses taught in Dutch. If you wish to switch programmes, a student counsellor will help and advise you, and will discuss the options available with you.
Each year is divided into two semesters, and each semester has two terms of ten weeks. The projects, lectures, exams and other activities are organised around these semesters and terms. Examinations are generally held at the end of each term.
Subject areas covered in the programme include:
The first year of the Marketing Management programme focuses on broad-based academic business learning. At the same time, project-driven teaching and learning will enable you to apply the theory to practical business-related project assignments right away.
Second year In the second academic year, you will expand your sound base of theoretical knowledge and enhance your ability to apply theory to practical business situations.
In your third year, you will have the opportunity to choose two differentiation minors in the first semester. In your second semester, you will do a six-month work placement. This may be in the Netherlands, at one of the numerous multinational companies, international organisations or NGOs, or you may choose to complete it in your home country or somewhere else.
In your fourth year, you will again choose two minors in the first semester. In the second semester, you will work on your bachelor's thesis, which will take the form of a practical business assignment for an organisation (profit, non-profit or governmental) either in the Netherlands or abroad. You will be supervised by your study advisor.
In your final year of study, you will carry out a graduation project and write a thesis. This will conclude your programme. Once you have completed the bachelor's degree programme in Marketing Management, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Economics (BEc.) degree. This internationally recognised degree will allow you to apply for master's degree programmes in the Netherlands and abroad.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
