In the first year students attend fundamental courses in natural sciences such as mathematics and physics and take compulsory computer programming and business classes. In the second year, student advance their skills in mathematics, while they also learn digital circuit design leading to modern computer architecture. All these courses are coupled with hands-on, practical lab sessions. In the Programming Studio class they learn modern and advanced software engineering techniques and tools. Data structures, algorithm analysis, and database design courses give them a strong theoretical foundation. At the end of the second year, OzU Computer Science students do their internship either in the industry or as a research assistant in one of our research centers based on their fields of interest. In the third year students take the compulsory courses in CS such as the programming languages, advanced algorithm analysis, operating systems and computer networks. They can also select electives from a wide spectrum of available courses including software architecture, data mining, parallel and distributed systems, computer graphics, and many more. Students can also advance written and communication skills as well as business skills by taking elective courses from other departments. At the end of the third year, they will be able to find internships easily for their matching skills as they have made significant progress towards attaining an engineering degree from OzU. In the fourth year, students will take a two-semester project-based design course to turn their background knowledge into practice and specialize in a field of interest. To support their projects and expertise area, they will also take elective engineering courses.
