This First Cycle Degree Programme is characterised by a technical approach to the study of languages and to oral and written mediation. The programme includes linguistic-cultural courses, including: liaison interpreting in the three main languages (Chinese, English, Spanish); Cantonese (optional); elements of international law and business administration.
As for linguistic courses, attendance is compulsory. The degree programme is based on innovative teaching methods, including the use of language and IT laboratories. It also requires students to spend a semester in China or Spain (tuition fees of foreign programmes will be paid by Ca’ Foscari University, whereas travel, board and accommodation expenses will be paid by the student).
First-cycle graduates may work as interpreters, experts of commercial relations with domestic and international markets, translators, tour guides, cultural mediators and linguistic mediators in schools.
Both curricula will provide in-depth linguistic and cultural knowledge relating to the areas of study, basic knowledge of economics and law and linguistic and cultural mediation skills. The two curricula are:
The educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
Knowledge acquired by students will be assessed through written and oral exams during the entire university career.
The degree exam consists in preparing a paper/thesis, evaluated according to methods similar to those of written exams but not in the presence of the student. The supervisor may require an oral discussion of the paper/thesis, in case he/she considers it to be necessary.
Limited places: 140 places available (70 for each curriculum) + 4 (2 for each curriculum) reserved for non-EU students residing abroad + 5 (4 for the Chinese-English curriculum and 1 for the Spanish-English curriculum) reserved for Chinese students residing in China, according to the Marco Polo Programme.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

More informationAdmission to this First Cycle Degree Programme requires a five-year school leaving certificate, or any other educational qualification obtained abroad and considered as eligible by the University.
Furthermore, admission is subject to a linguistic-cultural test aimed at assessing the level of English knowledge (at least level B1), as well as of Italian language and general education relating to the history and geography of China or of Spanish-speaking countries, depending on the curriculum chosen.
