This programme covers the areas of inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry. In addition it provides experience of good laboratory practice and topical investigations.

It is primarily aimed at people who are employed or wish to seek employment in a chemical or related area. The programme is often used by employers as their training programme and we have also delivered the qualification on industrial premises for the last ten years.

Aims of the programme
* To provide students with a broad knowledge of chemistry and associated practical skills in order for them to become competent to practice in a range of professional environments and to progress to degrees in chemistry, pharmaceutical science and analytical chemistry.
* To develop in students the ability to apply their chemistry skills and knowledge to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in chemistry.
* To develop a range of transferable skills which will be of value both during the programme, and subsequent degrees.

To develop group working and relating to others, together with problem solving and task management.

The main systems for measuring this are IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 for degree programmes or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 for degree programmes. Recently the TOEFL computer-based test has been abolished to make way for the introduction of the Internet-based test, gradually eliminating the traditional paper-based method. Other qualifications may be satisfactory. We can tell you what is acceptable.
