This degree programme is designed to prepare students for a professional career in mechanical engineering by providing a broad education which encompasses the methodologies and practices of engineering appropriate to the needs of industry. The programme is structured so students develop a sound understanding of the nature of engineering systems and of typical operational problems which commonly face the practitioner engineer.
A fresh approach is offered in the development of methodologies and designs that may be applied to new or existing engineering systems. In the first two years students develop a wide range of skills that encompass the principles, techniques and practices of mechanical engineering, as well as multidisciplinary skills in mechatronics and computing and a range of professional skills. In the final year students develop specialist interests by selecting options and choosing a project.

5 years sandwich
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take test300 UCAS points FROM
EITHER A-levels, including mathematics and preferably a science/technology subject
OR a National Diploma in engineering at DDM
OR equivalent qualifications.
PLUS, at least three GCSEs at grade C or above (including English, mathematics and science) or equivalent qualifications
• A foundation year is available for students who do not meet the standard criteria for entry to this degree
Language skills
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of your fluency in English before you can begin a programme. The main systems for measuring this are IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 for degree programmes or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 for degree programmes. Recently the TOEFL computer-based test has been abolished to make way for the introduction of the Internet-based test, gradually eliminating the traditional paper-based method. Other qualifications may be satisfactory. We can tell you what is acceptable.
| Minimal degree required: | High School diploma |
| Minimal amount of work experience | Not specified |
| IELTS Band: | 6.0 |
| Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): | Grade C (Score: 60) |
| TOEFL Paper-based: | 550 |
It is the intention to have the MEng Hons programme accredited by the IET to meet the full academic requirements as a chartered engineer
