This programme can only be taken as part of a combined honours degree.
Childhood development and childhood are emerging academic disciplines of increasing importance. There is widespread recognition that the experience of childhood is highly significant for children and for their lay and professional carers.
The study of child development draws on a range of disciplines, including psychology, physiology, sociology and anthropology. These disciplines have been drawn together to provide a multidisciplinary, holistic perspective on childhood.
Career options
Graduates can follow careers in education, children's nursing, adult nursing and midwifery. They also have employment opportunities in public, voluntary and independent sectors, social work, health management training and graduate training schemes.

A further 120 credits (half of the total) are derived from the second subject in this combined honours degree.
Assessment
Students are assessed through exams, reports and group presentations.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

OR an approved Access to Higher Education Diploma (with English and mathematics at level 2 or 3).
Language skills
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of your fluency in English before you can begin a programme. The main systems for measuring this are IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 for degree programmes or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 for degree programmes. Recently the TOEFL computer-based test has been abolished to make way for the introduction of the Internet-based test, gradually eliminating the traditional paper-based method. Other qualifications may be satisfactory. We can tell you what is acceptable.
