Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is one of the two technical universities in Lithuania and only one technical university in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University was established in 1956 as Vilnius Department of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute.
In 1969 it was reorganised into Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute, acquired the status and title of Vilnius Technical University in 1990, and was renamed to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1997. The name of Gediminas was given to the University in honour of the Great Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, who is considered to be the founder of Vilnius (in 1323).

This programme is taught in English and lead to the Bachelor's Degree in four years. The studies are carried out according to the study programmes that are arranged and approved at the University. Study committees certify study modules and arrange study programmes.
In order to help future Bachelor's students to develop basic skills necessary to successfully pursue engineerign studies, Pre-engineering courses are arranged.
A Bachelor of Information Engineering gets acquainted with up-to-date computer systems technologies, their development tendencies and design principles; is able to identify and solve problems of informatics technologies, make use of information technologies; has the ability to design computer-based systems and their electronic functional devices; able to experiment, analyze results and develop software, learn new programming languages for data analysis, process control, automatic design and computer graphics.
