What you study

In Year 1 you experience the fundamental principles of graphic design. You are introduced to essential graphic languages and processes including computer application skills, drawing, typography, advertising, ideas generation and web design.

During Year 2 you develop a portfolio of work as you build your knowledge, strengths, professional and management skills. Wider and more creative design solutions are actively encouraged. As you continue to build a distinctive body of work you participate in live projects, work more independently and design a final portfolio for presentation. At the end of this year you may finish with the HND Graphic Design diploma.

During year 3, completed in partnership with Teesside University, you discuss and agree topics of your choice for the final major project and dissertation, and you are given opportunities to work on live projects and competition briefs. The final year requires you to work independently in a studio environment, participate in seminars and workshops and develop a final portfolio for a public show.

How you learn

You work and study in small groups utilizing Prague College’s digital resources, library, workshop facilities, up-to-date equipment and processes, and studio environment. Students are at the centre of the learning process and independent learning is encouraged. Workshop and seminar time is mixed with taught sessions with staff. Theoretical work is delivered through illustrated lectures and seminars where there is opportunity for collective discussion.

There are no examinations in the programme, as you are assessed on whatever you produce. Assessment is undertaken against carefully defined criteria and project-based assignments involve a critique. The critique is a reflective process allowing for both staff and peer group appraisal.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Step #1 Consultation and advice

The first step to enrollment at Prague College is to discuss the programmes and study options with a study advisor. Many students schedule appointments at the college or email their ideas and requests to us.

Step #2 Submit application form and supporting documentation

During the introductory discussion, you will get detailed information about the documents required for application to Prague College.

Generally, the application package will consist of: confirmation of completed level of education (High School Diploma, Bachelors degree, etc.), confirmation of English level and letter of motivation.

After all documents are submitted students will be invited for the final interview. This interview is best done in person, but if you are not currently in Prague, then interview can be arranged by phone.

Step #3 Interview

The interview is probably the most important part of the application process.

Since there are no university entrance examinations in the British higher education system, this is the key point where we can decide if you are a suitable candidate for the programme you have chosen.

Of course, in many cases we have already had considerable discussions with you by email and telephone, so you will probably be well-prepared for the formal interview.

Step #4 Acceptance and conditional offers

After the interview, and after you have submitted all documentation required, we will be able to make a decision on whether to offer you a place at Prague College - usually within five to seven working days.

In some cases, we may ask for additional documents or references.

Step # 5 Payments

If you receive an offer from Prague College and decide to accept it, then it is time to reserve your place on the programme. This is done by paying a deposit, or in the case of an international student applying for a visa, a full semester payment. International students are provided documents for the visa application after making this payment, and the visa application process can be started as well.

Step #6 Get ready to start

Proof of English level

Non-native English speakers are required to submit a recent score from an internationally recognized English examination. These may include, but are not limited to the following examinations:

  • IELTS
  • ELSA (which can be done at Prague College)
  • TOEFL

The ELSA test was developed by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a reliable and consistent test of English language skills proficiency.
ELSA is available in British or American English and evaluates ‘real life’ English as used in the workplace, when travelling, socialising or studying.
ELSA can be taken by anyone at any time and can be taken independently of a course of study.

English language

  • Level Five Advanced
  • ELSA 340-380
  • TOEFL iBT 50-60
  • IELTS 6.0
