Students achieve comprehensive knowledge in linear algebra, analysis, discrete mathematics, numerical mathematics, stochastics, optimization, number theory and computer sciences, as well as in their selected consolidation complexes (see below).
In the mathematical project of the fifth semester students work, supervised by a professor of the faculty, on a major mathematical project, thereby laying the foundation for their later Bachelor thesis. The sixth semester is reserved both for an industrial practical and the Bachelor thesis which is usually written in cooperation with a private or public corporation or research institute (e.g.Fraunhofer Institute). Disposing of numerous cooperation partners in industry and economy, we support students in their search for appropriate subjects.
In theirfourth and fifth semester, students are trained optionally in two specialization complexes:
Specialization complex ‘Engineering Mathematics’ Mathematical methods for modelling technical systems and processes are in the foreground. In addition, students achieve profound knowledge in the numerical processing of partial differential equations as well as in complex analysis, technical mechanics and in the field of integral transform.
Specialization complex ‘Business Mathematics’ The specialization in Business Mathematics is focused on actuarial mathematics and stochastics which play a major role in financial sectors, particularly in insurance companies, and banks. This is also aim of the subjects Life Insurance Mathematics, Damage Insurance Mathematics, Forecasting Methods and Risk Theory as well as training in Computer-aided Statistics.
