The wide range of subjects which comprise this degree course endow the graduate in Environmental Sciences with an enormous capacity for analysis and synthesis, providing a global overview of environmental problems and the correct path to take in order resolve them. The following career opportunities are particularly relevant: environmental impact assessment and consultancy, public sector environmental management, environmental quality management systems, environmental auditing, environmental management, environmental technology and environmental training and education.All the above activities are carried out in a wide range of economic sectors and are present in all spheres of society, including local, regional, national and community government, environmental consultancy and auditing companies, industry, energy, transport, construction and civil works, educational centres and non-governmental organisations.Recent years have seen a steady increase in the number of posts offered in this sector as a result of greater environmental awareness on the part of society, a trend which is unlikely to change in the future.


Contents

This degree provides a broad education offering an in-depth study of the environment, specificially aimed at environmental management, planning and education. The degree incorporates a diverse range of subjects, from the experimental sciences (biology, physics, geology, mathematics, chemistry) to the social sciences (law, economics, geography), the health sciences (toxicology, public health), environmental planning and management (environmental auditing, environmental impact assessment, land-use planning), and practical subjects, related to such diverse aspects such as climate change, sustainable development and environmental education, among others, completes and complements the education received. All of these subjects contain a strong practical element, reflected in the high number of clases held in consultancies, IT facilities, laboratorios and in the field, providing students with ex`perience of the resolution of real-life problems. The degree in Environmental Sciences course programme has been designed to promote student mobility. Accordingly, students are offered the possibility of studying elective subjects at other European universities with which the Faculty maintains exchange agreements. Similarly, students may obtain significant number of elective credits through work experience, an aspect actively promoted within the Faculty.

Requirements

The Environmental Sciences bring together diverse areas of knowledge which share a common denominator: the environment. The multidisciplinary approach requires students to have a good education in the experimental sciences, together with a basic understanding of the social sciences.

Students should have an interestin scientific knowledge and technological innovation with respect to the environment, the capacity for critical interpretation of environmental phenomena and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, together with good communication and interpersonal skills and initiative. They should also be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment to society and nature, and an interest in resolving environmental problems.
