Art and Technology (ArT) is for students with an urge to create and to work with the interactive field between art and technology. ArT will challenge you to develop and demonstrate your artistic creativity and to design large scale installations and events in cross-disciplinary teams.
Your field of activity will be the artistic and design possibilities that are present in contemporary materials, graphics, audio, physical design and new media. This study programme will not only give you training for a future job within one of the world
The guiding vision behind the programme is to establish a creative learning environment within which artistic exercise is brought into fruitful interaction with know-how concerning the creation of products and phenomena with a experiential potential. Project work within the programme emphasises honing the ability to create interactive installations and performative spaces. The programme therefore contains many technological qualifications and a high degree of knowledge about the interplay between the work and its audience.
The Art & Technology program offers an international bachelor degree. It seeks to attract creative students from all over the world and to create an international learning environment with the best teachers in the fields of art, design, media and technology. The program is therefore offered in English.

Having completed the bachelor programme, you will have achieved professional qualifications making you capable of carrying out installation art and design projects on various scales, and you will have gained specific technical competence within technology, design methodology and communication. Studyform
Project work and the creative act are the focal points of the programme. Aalborg University is well-known for its characteristic form of study: Problem-oriented project work. Project work gives you the opportunity to explore major, complex problems and to supply artistic comments and design proposals. The work takes places individually as well as in groups. One or more supervisors will be attached to your project work, which is supported by theoretical courses and practical workshops. The teaching is development and research based. This means that your supervision is based on the very latest knowledge.
Each semester is made up of one major project and several minor workshops and courses. which include various theoretical subjects, the history of art and technology, understanding of Scandinavian and European societies, and study tours.
1st year: Embodiment & Emotion Scapes
During the 1st and 2nd semesters you will work with spatiality, installations and constructions in workshops and minor projects. The focus is on materials and the quality of experience. In the course of this year, we will arrange a study tour in Scandinavia, and you will gain knowledge of Scandinavian art, culture and social conditions.
1st semester:
Embodyment - Sculpture and Technology Embodiment Sculpture and Technology (25 ECTS) introduces you to basic problems and solutions concerning the design of products and artefacts of sculptural and aesthetic quality. History and Science I (5 ECTS) grants you basic insight into pre 20th century history of art history and technology.
Workshops and Courses: Tectonic I Metal, Wood and Concrete; Perception I Morphology and Topology I; Design and Artistic Methodology I; Drawing and Sketching Technique I - Shapes and Space;History of Art- and Technology I.
2nd semester:
Emotion Scapes - Space and Technology (25 ECTS) introduces you to basic problems and solutions concerning the design of experience spaces and landscapes. Scandinavian Studies I- Inside Scandinavia (5 ECTS) introduces you to the fundamental ideas behind the Scandinavian model of society until 1970.

2nd Year. Transition and Space of Interaction
In the 3rd and 4th semesters you will work with "intelligent tools" and "interactive spaces" in which the physical world interacts with the audience. You will work with such subjects as sensors, robots, interactive graphics, audio and new media.. You will participate in a major study tour to a European destination and will work with the best installation artists and engineers in the field.
3rd semester:
Transition and X-motion (25 ECTS) comprises the design of products, artefacts and installations that describe physical as well as emotional transitions.
History and Science II (5 ECTS) gives you basic insight into 20th century history of art history and technology.
Workshops and Courses: Sensors and Acurators I; Programming; Design and Artistic Methodology III -Velocity and Scale; Drawing and Sketching Technique III - Animation; History of Art- and Technology II.
4th Semester:
Place and Space of Interaction (20 ECTS) comprises the elaboration of interactive spaces and installations, and it challenges your perception of the interplay between a work and its audience.
Scandinavian Studies II -- In a European Context (10 ECTS) gives you further qualifications to analyse and interpret the post modern (1970 - 2008) Scandinavian model of society, art and architecture.
Workshops and Courses: Design and Artistic Methodology IV - Interaction Design; Audio and Video Systems I; Sensors and Acurators II; Perception III - Hybrid Spaces and Interaction; Drawing and Sketching Technique IV -Animation; Digital Representation II (CAD) - Spatial animation; Scandinavian Studies II- In a European Context.
3rd Year. Narratives and Realms
During the 5th semester, your skills in narrative technique will be strengthened. The project work is aimed at fusing physical and virtual worlds in sensory landscapes and coherent experience sequences. This involves artists and specific target audiences, and it will result in the design of major events, experience parks or scenic courses of events. In the 6th semester you will complete the bachelor project. This is when you will get the opportunity to specialise within your primary field of interest.
5th Semester:
The project theme Narratives and Realms (20 ECTS) consists of problems and solutions regarding the design of composite scenic, narrative universes Electives (10 ECTS) indicates that you are free to select the seminars and courses that are necessary in relation to your further specialisation.

6th Semester:
The bachelor project theme Experience Design (20 ECTS) is a self-elected project dealing with a holistic elaboration of artefacts and installations with the purpose of entertaining, informing, inspiring or otherwise influencing the audience or users.
Marketing and Aesthetic Communication (5 ECTS) gives you knowledge about theories concerning the aesthetic marketing of experience design in relation to different markets.
Scandinavian Studies III Art and Lifestyle (5 ECTS) gives you knowledge of theories, as well as analytical and interpretative competence, concerning experiencial consumption, as it relates to different lifestyle groups.

Master's degree programs
All students who have completed the ArT bachelor degree are eligible to apply for admission to a number of master's degree programs. Aalborg University will soon offer a Master's Degree in Art & Technology with a high level of artistic development and technology. Moreover, the following AAU master's degree programmes currently offered in English are viable options: Urban Design, Digital Design Medialogy, Interactive Digital Media and Experience Design.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Aalborg University does, however, grant tuition waivers to non-EU/EEA students. The faculties of Aalborg University were awarded 50 tuition waivers for September 2011.
Students cannot apply for the scholarships but will be nominated by the faculties of Aalborg University when they apply to Aalborg University.
