If you choose an education in IT, communication and new media, you will obtain a very attractive profile including competences highly in demand by employers. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced information and communications technologies enabling new applications based on Internet, mobile and broadcast (radio & TV) platforms. You will gain a profound understanding of the technologies and their potential, and you will learn how to apply technology in practice through analysis and development of innovative services, applications and solutions that target specific user needs.

The education is interdisciplinary. You will get an advanced technical understanding of software and network technologies combined with understanding of users, creativity, economic theory, organizational theory and management.

You will learn about the social, commercial and ethical frameworks for technology use, and you will become abreast of the latest developments in a global perspective.

Contents

Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, projects form a major part of the study, so you will be working extensively with your fellow students. All students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

IT, Communication, and Media can be studied as a:

  • 3-year BSc programme (180 ECTS)

You also have the possibility to take single courses or subjects within the programme.
If you choose to complete the bachelor's programme, you will graduate with the academic title of Bachelor of Science (BSc).

1st semester:

IT systems in a Market Perspective

Courses on:

  • Project oriented Problem Based Learning
  • Object-oriented Programming
  • Mathematics

Project:

Conceptual design of an ICT application. Examples:

  • Online Pharmacy,
  • Online Hip-Hop shop,
  • Real estate advertising platform

Development of Smaller IT systems. Examples: (apps develop for mobile phones)

  • Pub crawl application
  • News blog on a Social network service
  • Hitch hiking application
  • Mobile security system

2nd semester: System Development and User Interaction

Courses on:

  • Requirements specification, systems design and user involvement
  • Object-oriented Programming
  • Mathematics

Project:

  • System Development and User Interaction

3rd semester: Distributed systems and communities

Courses on:

  • IT in distributed Organizations
  • Computer Networks and the Internet
  • Distributed Systems

Project:

  • Distributed systems and communities

4th semester: Communications and Media Technology

Courses on:

  • Communication and Media Technologies
  • Economics
  • Linear Algebra and data mining

Project

Communications and media technologies

  • Example: How Internet can be offered in rural areas using satellite, WiMAX and Wi-fi

5th semester: Application Development and security

Courses on:

  • IT-supported Communication
  • Network and Application Security

6th semester: IT, Communication and New Media

Course and exercises including:

  • Next Generation Networks
  • Technology and society

Project:

  • Final Bachelor's project

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Funding details

New students who have registered for a full-time study programme at Aalborg University but who are not nationals of an EU/EEA country will be charged tuition fee. For full list of tuition fees please see http://studyguide.aau.dk/apply/tuition

Aalborg University does, however, grant tuition waivers to non-EU/EEA students. The faculties of Aalborg University were awarded 50 tuition waivers for September 2011.

Students cannot apply for the scholarships but will be nominated by the faculties of Aalborg University when they apply to Aalborg University.
