Programme Goals
The Bachelor programme in Aviation Management is practice oriented, comprises six semesters and leads to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Students receive a qualified management education with a specialised focus in aviation management. Encompassing six periods of on-the-job training, realistic case studies and problem-oriented project work, the programme promotes interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches and enables students to apply theoretical knowledge within a practical environment. Language courses and interdisciplinary modules foster social competencies and enhance the students’ intercultural awareness. Close ties between the University of Applied Sciences and partner companies promote a stable study environment and facilitate the students’ entry into the professional field of aviation management.
Career Profile
The Bachelor programme in Aviation Management is designed to prepare students for management roles in the aviation business, such as airport operators, airlines or other aviation related fields. Interdisciplinary approaches and cross-functional activities are promoted in close cooperation with the programme’s strategic partners. Graduates will be able to recognise and apply economic thinking and acting. Based on acquired management tools and methodologies, they will have the skills and capacities to analyse and interpret business situations and conceive of successful approaches to problems and projects related to the aviation industry.
Programme Profile
The Aviation Management programme is offered by the University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt am Main (Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main) and various businesses in the aviation industry coopperatively. Each semester comprises a 13-week theory phase, conducted at the University of Applied Science, and a subsequent 10-week apprenticeship phase at the partner company. This enables students to relate theory directly to the practical aspects of the profession.
Programme Structure
The programme is composed of six semesters full time and comprises 180 ECTS credits. It is modular in structure and culminates in a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The programme commences in the winter semester. Requirements for admission to the programme include a study and apprenticeship contract with a one of our partner companies in aviation.
Programme Contents
The Aviation Management programme has been designed with the demands of airports, airlines and the DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung) in mind and offers the following emphasis:
* Foundations in economics, service management, law, accounting, mathematics, computer science, general studies, etc, make up approximately 60% of the 24 theoretical modules
* Logistics foundations, business logistics and Supply Chain Management comprise approximately 10% of the 24 theoretical modules
* Furthermore, a comprehensive immersion phase in aviation economics and logistics comprises 30% of the theoretical modules
* Additional and company specific immersion modules take place as part of the apprenticeship component of the programme. Here, social and personal competencies and integrative team work are transmitted through practically oriented workshops, projects, and case studies
As part of the apprenticeship module, students gain experience in relevant areas of the business and get to know the functional elements of the company by engaging in management, logistical and aviation-relevant tasks. Considering the programme’s international focus, a study abroad component within the practical modules is recommended.
Throughout the programme, students should ideally engage in projects that require an ambitious approach to problem solving. They will be required to work independently and proactively, taking on responsibilities individually and within a team. Curriculum contents are typically tailored to the partner companies’ project focus.
Career Prospects
In an increasingly globalised world economy, the aviation industry takes on a key role as a connector of internationally operating corporations. This opens up attractive career prospects for our graduates, who are well equipped to meet the industry’s demands and are able to plan and carry out a wide variety of aviation projects.
