Graduates are safe in the knowledge that the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB); Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) and Board of Quantity Surveyors in Malaysia (BQSM) hold this long-running programme in high regard.
As a quantity surveyor, you would be a key player in the construction team, giving financial advice to a wide variety of clients.
Quatity surveyors are an essential link between designer and contractor, providing advice on construction costs and contractual arrangement. As such, they take responsibility for the monitoring of costs from the start to the finish of construction projects.
Places on the Quatity Surveying programme at GCU are at a premium, not least because all second year full-time students have the opportunity to spend one week in Europe experiencing the industry from a different perspective.
Full-time students in Year 3 also participate in an annual 'interact' design project, working with students from the Glasgow School of Art, the University of Glasgow and the University of the West of Scotland. This unique competition provides an opportunity for students to experience working as part of a team to develop a network of contacts and participate competitively in solving a specific design problem.
Graduates from the programme have been recruited by such leading companies as First Engineering Tarmac, Miller Group, Balfour Beatty, Turner and Townsend and Doig + Smith. They continue to find meaningful employment with major players in the construction and property sectors.
