It offers students flexibility in their studies,w ith the BSc available on a full-time basis and the BEng on a part time basis to help engineers who are currently employed in the building services industry improve their knowledge and skills.
The Building Services Engineering teaching team has a wealth of knowledge, with many staff having worked in the public and private sector in the UK and abroad.
We make it our mission to listen and be receptive to student feedback, which makes for a healthy and productive learning environment.
As the programme progresses, the subjects take on a more applied and vocational nature, focusing on lighting, design, heating and air conditioning and electrical systems.
Graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE). In addition, the BSc programme provides entry to the third year of the BEng (Hons) programme, enabling students to progress towards fully Chartered Engineer status.
With strong industry and academic partnerships in Europe, students have the option of completing work placements abroad. Study in the final year of the BEng is normally sponsored by industry.
Careers cover a wide spectrum of activities from the design to the operations stages of domestic, commercial, industrial and leisure building types. Opportunities include consultant design engineer, service supplier, facilities management, major contracting companies and public organisations.
Year 1: Subjects covering aspects of industrial operation and Application as well as Electrical and Computer Technologies will be added to the Science of Engineering and Mathematics to create a broad base knowledge.
Year 2: Expands upon first year disciplines and introduced concepts related to Building Services Engineering and Building Technoloy to support case study work.
Year 3: Computer Aided Dsign will be introduced to compliment learning in core Building Services Engineering design functions such as Air Conditioning Engineering and Heating Systems.
Year 4: Graduate and transfer to the third year of the BEng (Hons) part-time course with industrial sponsorship.
Work placement: The BEng (Hons) is part-time programme aimed to develop engineers who are currently employed within the building services industry. Those studying the BSc (Hons) programme have the opportunity to undertake an accredited work placement.
Assessment: Various assessment methods are used, including written course work, unseen examinations and time-constrained tests.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

On completing Year 3 of the BSc students graduate from this degree and normally transfer to the third year of the BEng (Hons) for a further 2 years of part-time study sponsored by industry. On graduating from the BEng (Hons), students have 2 years industrial experience as well as BSc and BEng (Hons) degrees and will be able to progress towards full Chartered Engineer status.
