The human biosciences are a diverse range of subjects connected by a common bond of human biology and a scientific foundation for our understanding of human health and disease.
The Human Biosciences programme is designed to suit students wishing to pursue a career in the bioscience, biotechnology, healthcare or pharmaceutical sectors, as it covers key aspects of human biology relevant to these areas.
The programme is very flexible in that it starts with modules providing a good foundation in the more specialist areas of Food Bioscience, Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology and Pharmacology.
By the end of Year 2 students will have enough of an understanding of these subjects to decide on specialisms they feel are most interesting and appropriate for their career aspirations.
While some students choose to pursue one specialist subject at the end of Year 2, a number choose to continue to blend several subjects to keep as many career paths open to them as possible.
Biology is a practical science and the Human Biosciences programme at Glasgow Caledonian University involved a high degree of practical work that ensures our graduates develop the laboratory skills so sought after by employers.
A Human Biosciences graduate is well suited to working in pharmaceutical development, the Forensic Science Service, product research and manufacture in the food and other industries. Some also choose further study or teaching.
