The Building Technology programme is of 2 years’ duration and the first 3 semesters are shared with the Bachelor Degree in Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme. On the 4th semester you will go on a 10 week internship.

Analytic approach

The pivot of the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme is our analytic approach to construction issues. Students on the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme are part of a problem-based learning environment where lessons focus on two things: professional skills and the process. We work on understanding the issues, causes and consequences that can arise when designing a building.

Working method

Through problem-based thinking you will be introduced to a working method where:

  • The process is important in relation to creating the product.
  • Abstract thinking supports the specific.
  • Knowledge sharing increases professionalism.
  • Obstacles create new possibilities.
  • It is okay to make mistakes.
  • Solutions are relative and must be argued for in relation to each other.

Innovation

On the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme, we are determined to give students competencies in creativity and innovation because we believe that the labour market of the future will require creative and innovative “agents of change”.

Teaching takes its starting point in the principles behind “The Creative Platform” of Aalborg University but is naturally aimed at the goals and visions of the Architectural Technology and Construction Management programme. This means that students will be met with specific methodologies and tools aiming to make creativity and innovation a way of thinking and working.

We must dare to make mistakes, we must dare to seek new solutions and we must dare be in the midst of a creative process. Teaching innovation is considered a natural part of day-to-day teaching since creativity often arises from analytic and reflective understanding of problem areas. That is why you will meet new methodologies and working methods that aim to eliminate habitual thinking and promote horizontal thinking.

Through a curious and open approach to the construction industry, we challenge prevailing norms in an attempt to achieve new solutions to streamline and improve e.g. construction processes or products. In this way, innovation lessons are anchored in the professionalism that is trained in connection with project work.
