Studies in Computer Science are concerned not only with the efficient calculation of functions, but also with the object of the calculations, why the calculation is necessary, the arising benefits and costs, how to properly implement the use of computers, and how we are influenced by all this. It is concerned with the models and formalisations which lie at the foundation of calculations. And it is concerned with the use and the interaction with the computer.

It is an academic course of studies. It lives from the relationship between general, fundamental knowledge, and specialist instrumental skill-sets; it emphasises how foundation knowledge is prerequisite to the skill-sets, but that neither can do without the other. Students are taught competences which enable them to react quickly and independently to the changing requirements of working practice. Graduates find job opportunities in industry, the economy, public service, as employees of the manufacturers of computer hardware and software, with users, and in research and teaching.

Contents

Studies deal with the theoretical, practical and technical foundations of computer science, with their application in pursuit of solutions for concrete problems and issues, as well as with the societal crrelations of development and application processes.

Area foci/ modules for advanced specialisation

The objects of research projects worked on cover a broad range of topics, ranging from technical-mathematical basics, through concepts and realisation of computer systems, up to issues surrounding the social consequences and framework conditions.

General Studies

General Studies account for 25% of the study programme. These courses train key competences for subsequent career fields. By building their own individual specialities, students are able to shape and amplify their academic profile.
