Career Opportunities

The programme aims to provide an academically rigorous framework through which learners understand and critically appraise the philosophy and practice of marketing with digital media. The programme will develop and prepare learners to work in any organisation, national or international, profit and not for profit and will therefore serve the needs of employers and national needs. The majority of graduates from this programme will seek employment at graduate entry marketing positions within organisations either nationally or internationally. This programme is also a valuable foundation for further postgraduate training and research.

Structure & Content

The central focus of the programme is on Marketing with Digital Media and Cloud Computing subjects. The common foundation year will feature a number of relevant business subjects, which extend the field of study to the broader business environment within which the Marketing with Digital Media and Cloud Computing functions are positioned. Specialist subjects provide knowledge and critical understanding of current thinking and practice across a range of digital media areas. As the course progresses, learners learn to apply the various methods and techniques they have studied. They also learn to develop pragmatic solutions to real problems and how to effectively communicate information, ideas, complex problems and solutions to a range of areas.

Year 1 - Six mandatory subjects provide a solid grounding in the essential business disciplines combined with an Introduction to Marketing module and Information & Communications Technology

Year 2 - Learner knowledge in the key marketing areas is further developed in one of the following elective modules; Marketing Communications and Market Research while learners study four mandatory modules including Selling and Sales Management, Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, Digital Planning & Management and Cloud Computing for Business.
Year 3 - At the final year, learners focus on four mandatory modules including Business Strategy, Digital Media Tools, Website Marketing Design & Development and Applications for the Cloud. Learners will have also gained knowledge and competence in one of the following elective modules; International Marketing, Services Marketing and Consumer Analysis.

Teaching & Assessment

The BA (Hons) Marketing with Digital Media & Cloud Computing is taught mainly through lectures and tutorials, with students taking responsibility for a significant amount of study outside scheduled class times. Guest speakers from industry have become an important component of the educational experience in DBS. Their role is to supplement the pedagogical goals of programmes with the exposure of learners to real life scenarios of successful practitioners within the relevant industry. Assessed work will consist of traditional end-of-year examinations plus a significant element of continuous assessment based on coursework. Such coursework may involve research based reports, case studies, essays or practical assignments.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Honours Bachelor Degrees (Level 8)

Leaving CertificateApplicants must obtain a minimum of grade C3 in two higher-level subjects and grade D3 in four ordinary level subjects, including a language. Some degree programmes will also require a minimum of D3 in ordinary level Maths and /or English. Please see individual course entry requirements for further details.

A-Levels/GCSEApplicants must obtain a minimum of four GCSE passes at grade C to include Maths and English plus two A-level passes at grade C or higher.

BTECStudents applying for any HETAC honours/ordinary degree or higher certificate must have obtained a minimum of a BTEC National Diploma in a cognate area.

FETAC ApplicantsMinimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC awards (NCVA Level 2 or 3) is a full FETAC award which includes a Distinction grade in at least three modules. A full FETAC award normally consists of eight modules. A record of achievement does not meet minimum entry standards. Further details can be obtained from the Admissions Office.

HETAC/LJMU Joint Awarded ProgrammesIf you are over 21 years of age on the 1st of January on the year of admission and do not meet the minimum entry requirements, you may apply as a Mature Student. Mature students should apply directly to the Admissions Office at Dublin Business School. Mature students are assessed on the basis of age, work experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the programme for which they are applying. Please forward documentation such as any relevant transcripts, a CV or any other related documentation to the Admissions Office. Proof of age such as a copy of driver’s licence or passport must also be submitted.

HETAC & University of Wales Awarded ProgrammesIf you are over 21 years of age on the 1st of January on the year of admission and do not meet the minimum entry requirements, you may apply as a Mature Student.
